Connect With Your Neighborhood
YardShoppers isn't just a marketplace β it's a neighborhood platform. Community Groups let you join local buy/sell/trade conversations, and the HOA Hub connects homeowner associations directly to the platform.
π₯ Community Groups
Community Groups are neighborhood-based groups where locals can connect, share, buy, sell, and trade. Think of them as neighborhood Facebook groups β but built into YardShoppers, with no algorithm and no ads.
Neighbors who want to organize neighborhood-wide garage sales, share local tips, sell items to people nearby, coordinate pickups, and build a sense of community around buying and selling locally. Groups can be for a specific neighborhood, city, hobby, or interest.
π Browsing & Joining Groups
Head to the Community Groups tab on the homepage or go to /community-groups to browse all available groups.
Type any keyword to find groups by name or topic β your neighborhood, a city name, a hobby, or anything else.
Use category pill filters to narrow groups by type β neighborhood sales, local trade, community events, and more.
Groups come in three privacy levels: Open (anyone can join instantly), Approval Required (owner reviews your request), and Locked (invite only). Filter to find ones you can join immediately.
Find the most active groups (Most Members) or discover brand-new groups just starting out (Newest).
Groups are displayed 24 at a time. Tap 'Load More' at the bottom to see additional results.
π Group Privacy Types
Every group has one of three privacy settings. When you create a group, you choose which level fits your community.
Anyone can find and join the group instantly β no approval needed. Best for public neighborhood groups and open communities.
Anyone can see the group, but joining requires the owner to approve your request. Best for curated or semi-private communities.
The group is fully private β invite only. Non-members can see it exists but cannot view its content or request to join.
β Creating a Community Group
Anyone with a free YardShoppers account can create a group. Tap the Create Group button on the Community Groups tab or browse page, or go to /community-groups/create.
Give your group a clear, descriptive name β your neighborhood, city, or topic.
Tell potential members what the group is about β what you post, who it's for, and any rules.
Pick the category that best fits your group so it appears in the right filtered searches.
Open, Approval Required, or Locked β choose the privacy level that's right for your community.
Your group goes live immediately. Share the link with neighbors, friends, or on social media to grow your membership.
